Lifespan Physiotherapy conducts the only Private Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme in South Australia.

Our Practice specialises in the treatment of individuals with lung problems.  Patients are seen for individualized treatment in Hospital, in Rooms and at Home.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme is an extension of this individual work.  It is an out-patient programme for people affected by respiratory disease.

The Programme is designed to assist individuals in managing the following conditions:

·                 Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (C.O.P.D.)

·                 Emphysema

·                 Chronic Asthma

·                 Chronic Bronchitis

·                 Shortness of breath

·                 Bronchiectasis

·                 Cystic Fibrosis

·                 Interstitial Lung Disease

·                 Pulmonary Fibrosis

·                 Before & After Lung Surgery

·                 Slow Stream Cardiac Recovery

Our Physiotherapists working with you have respectively completed postgraduate training and qualifications and lectured at a senior level at the University of South Australia in the areas of Respiratory Physiotherapy and Pulmonary and Cardiac rehabilitation.  Our Physiotherapists are members of the Respiratory Special Interest Group and the Australian and New Zealand Thoracic Society.  We have had over 40 years of combined experience working with clients in the Respiratory area.

INDIVIDUALISED PROGRAMME

Individual assessments, including a walking test, are performed so that the Programme can be tailored to the participant’s specific needs.

An individually prescribed and supervised exercise programme, strength training and a log book, forms an integral component of this Programme.

Participants attend 2 sessions per week where they will gradually progress through the Programme.  By improving their fitness and learning to cope with their lung condition they can minimize symptoms through self-management.

Participants are then re-assessed and encouraged to attend maintenance sessions to reinforce the benefits achieved from this Programme.

EDUCATION

Education forms an integral part of our individual treatments as well as our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme.  We have found that the more informed clients are, the better equipped they are to self-manage.

We conduct an extensive education programme throughout the year involving all aspects of respiratory management with invited speakers from a variety of disciplines.

The Programme takes place in our gymnasium where we have exercise equipment specially suited for pulmonary patients.  In addition, a pulse oximeter and oxygen cylinder are available if required.
